BORDO – Information Center for Non-Governmental Organizations

  Completed

The BORDO Information Centre for Non-Governmental Organisations completed the implementation of substantive projects on 30 June 2004.

The BORDO Library and archival collections are still available at the "Szpitalna" Non-Governmental Organization Center (Warsaw, Szpitalna Street 5/5). Books published at BORDO are distributed by the Civil Society Development Foundation (http://frso.pl).

The library was created by the BORDO Information Centre for Non-Governmental Organisations, operating within the Cooperation Fund Foundation in the Phare Social Dialogue Programme.

BORDO was established in 1993 as a nationwide institution, meeting the information needs of non-governmental organizations and documenting their achievements. One of the Center's primary tasks was to compile a collection of books devoted to the activities of non-governmental organizations.

Initially, due to the limited number of publications in Polish, the library primarily collected foreign-language publications, acquired through purchase or provided free of charge by publishers and foreign organizations. Over time, a growing number of Polish publications emerged, describing the non-governmental sector in Poland and useful in the organizations' practical activities (including those devoted to legal issues).

In 2005, the Cooperation Fund Foundation closed the BORDO Library programme.
