The agreement between the Government of the Swiss Confederation and the Government of the Republic of Poland was signed on August 29, 1990. The amount of aid granted was 120 million Swiss francs. Some of the projects implemented were financed on a loan basis.
This aid was allocated for the transfer of knowledge and technology, and for investments in sectors crucial to the Polish economy. Funds from loan repayments did not return to Switzerland but were transferred to a special fund designated for the implementation of subsequent projects. Over 200 local projects were co-financed. After 1999, this funding was directed to the voivodeships of the so-called Eastern Wall. These projects were diverse, including environmental protection, healthcare and social welfare, the energy sector, support for small and medium-sized businesses, and culture.
